The two men, covered in nothing but dust, were caught after part of the tunnel collapsed, leaving a gaping hole in the street near the bank.

They had apparently stripped off because of the heat inside the tunnel.

The pair - identified as Miguel Angel Crespin, 22, and Rafael Alberto Cerna, 18 - are to be charged with robbery, the police commissioner said.

Mara 18

The Mara 18 is a street gang which was formed by Hispanic immigrants in Los Angeles in the 1980s but the Mara 18 established a presence in Central America (almost El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras) when its members were deported from the U.S. to their native countries. Members of the Mara 18 often can be spotted by the many tattoos, which include the number 18, that cover their bodies.
